FAQs for Individuals

Where do the courses take place?

The courses are run across Brighton and Hove, East and West Sussex. The venue details for each date are available on the online booking page.

If there is not a venue listed near you, please get in touch via the website contact form and we may be able to run a course nearer to you.

How do I pay?
Book and pay online via the secure online booking form. You will be sent a confirmation email with booking details.
Will refreshments be provided?
Teas, coffee and light snacks will be provided during morning and afternoon break. Lunch will be provided by the venues unless otherwise stated.
What happens if I have dietary requirements?
Please add any dietary requirements to the dietary requirements section of the online booking form.
How accessible are the venues and the course materials?

If you have additional needs, please let us know and we will endeavour to make adjustments to support you.

All venues have been chosen with access in mind and we can make adjustments such as live captioning if required.

We can also allow additional time for those who need it during the assessments (only the Level 2 and 3 courses have assessments). Assessment questions can be read to you and your answers can be scribed if required.

What is the Cancellation Policy?

Should circumstances mean that you need to cancel your course and are unable to transfer to another date at the time of cancellation, the following charges will apply:

• More than four weeks prior to the course start date – no charge

• Two to four weeks prior to the course – 50% of the course fee

• Less than two weeks prior to the course – full fee.

Cancellation must be made in writing by email or post and received by the due date.

In the unlikely event that Hexagon Hive have to cancel a course for any reason you will be offered the option to rebook or we will issue a full refund.

What is the policy if I need to transfer the date of my course booking?

Should circumstances mean that you need to transfer course dates the following charges will apply, dependent on the notice given:

• Transfer made more than four weeks prior to the course start date – no charge

• Two to four weeks’ notice given – 25% of the course fee

• Less than two weeks’ notice given – 50% of the course fee.

All transfers must be within a period of six months.

What Covid safety measures do you have in place?
We will follow government guidance regarding safety measures. The following precautions are in place to keep everyone safe:

  • Hand sanitiser will be available at all venues.
  • Symptoms – please do not attend a session if you have any Covid symptoms or have tested positive within the last seven days.
    Symptoms include:

    1. Continuous cough
    2. Loss of taste or smell
    3. High temperature
    4. Cold or flu-like symptoms
  • Ventilation – during the sessions windows and doors will be opened periodically to promote airflow through the room during the session.
What is the process for Assessment, Certification and Accreditation?
First Aid for Mental Health Training Courses

Level 1 Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health (4 hours)
The qualification is assessed through a Multiple Choice Question Paper. Upon successful completion of the qualification assessment, learners will be awarded the Ofqual regulated Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health (RQF).

Level 2 Award in First Aid For Mental Health (1 day)
The qualification is assessed through both a practical demonstration of the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and a multiple-choice question paper.

A Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. No external assessors are required. Upon successful completion of the qualification assessment, learners will be awarded the Ofqual regulated Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health (RQF)

Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (2 days)
Summative practical assessment is ongoing by the trainer each day, along with a written assessment on each day.

A Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. No external assessors are required.

Upon successful completion of the qualification assessment, learners will be awarded the Ofqual regulated Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (RQF).

All qualifications are accredited by NUCO Training and are valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.

When and how will I receive my certificate?
The certificates will be issued within a month of the training being completed. It will be posted or emailed to the address or email address you give at the time of the training.
Why do I need to pass an assessment?
By making the courses recognised qualifications both learners and employers can evidence that they have the required and appropriate skills to deal effectively with mental health situations in the workplace.
What identification do I need and why do I need to bring it on the course?
Attendees must bring one form of photographic ID with them to their course. As part of the requirements with our awarding body, we must verify your identity prior to you sitting any elements of the assessment. If we are unable to do this, you will be unable to undertake any of the assessments. Please bring one of the following:

  • Valid passport (any nationality)
  • Signed UK driving license
  • Valid warrant card issued by HM forces or police
  • Photographic ID card eg. current employer
  • ID, Student ID, Travel card ID
  • UK Biometric residence permit.
When will I find out if I have passed the course assessment?
You will find out on the day if you have successfully passed.
What happens if I fail?
The trainer will be able to ask further supplementary questions to establish the learner’s understanding and may be able to pass if the learner is able to answer the questions correctly verbally. Following this there will be a discussion with the learner to understand if a re-sit or further training is required to ensure understanding. If the person is unable to pass the assessment a certificate of attendance for First Aid for Mental Health Awareness will be issued.

FAQs for Organisations

What is the process for making a group booking?
  1. Complete booking form with details of preferred dates, number of participants – maximum 16, venue choice.
  2. Decide on where the training session will take place. Either your place of work, a preferred training venue or we can arrange a suitable venue.
  3. Ensure the venue is appropriate for the session and the attendees.
  4. Decide on refreshments/catering – this can be organised by you if in-house or we can organise this.
  5. All details agreed and booking confirmed.
Where do the courses take place?
Courses take place at your place of work or a venue arranged by you. Alternatively, we can source a venue to suit your team’s requirements. We regularly hold courses in Brighton and Hove and across East and West Sussex but are able to run at different venues across the country on request.

All courses are also available online which can be really beneficial for remote teams. This can be delivered via zoom, teams or a platform of your choice.

Refreshments

In House
If the training session is being run in-house then the organisation will arrange refreshments, including tea, coffee, light snacks and a lunch.

Remote Venue
If the training is at a remote venue, teas, coffee and light snacks will be provided during morning and afternoon break and lunch will be provided by the venues unless otherwise stated.

Please check with all attendees regarding their dietary needs.

How do we pay?

You will be invoiced at the time of booking and our standard payment terms require either full payment or a 20% deposit of the total price taken at the time of booking to secure your course unless otherwise agreed. The remaining balance will become due no later than 28 days prior to the commencement of your course. Where bookings are made within 28 days of the first day of your course full payment will be required at the time of booking. Payment can be made by credit/debit card or BACS.
